Variant: “Cornell Lab of Ornithology” may be shortened to “Cornell Lab” if a hyperlink is provided to the Macaulay Library (https://www.macaulaylibrary.org). Link to the specimen page if possible.


Citations in scientific publications

If you reference Macaulay Library assets in your publication, please use the following format.


Citation of a single catalog number

  • Species (ML#####)
  • Example: Turdus lawrencii (ML126794)

Citation of numerous recordings at the end of a publication

  • “The following recordings from the Macaulay Library at the Cornell Lab of Ornithology were used: #####, #####, #####, etc.”
  • Example: “The following recordings from the Macaulay Library at the Cornell Lab of Ornithology were referenced: 12645, 33245, 23567, 45678.”
  • If you are using a large number of assets and it is not practical to include them all in the main body of the publication, please include a full list in the appendix.
