My eBird is your personal eBird hub – where all your checklists, listing totals, media are displayed and where you can adjust your settings and preferences. In My eBird you can view and edit all of your submitted observations, see your totals for listing regions from the county level to worldwide, manage your profile, and much more. Check out the video to get an overview, or use the links below to read about specific features.

Your eBird Profile

You can also view your listing totals in Your Profile. The most notable feature is the “profile map”, where each region is colored based on your eBird entries there. Can you fill in all the counties in your state? All provinces in your country?

Click on the statistics at the top of the map to toggle the display between species, checklists, and media. Use the “Change Region” tab to drill down to a specific country, province, or county. If you scroll down, you will see a display of your recent media for the region you’re viewing. Jump to all of your photographs or audio recordings in eBird and the Macaulay Library by clicking “View All” on the top left side of each display.

Customize your profile by clicking “Edit Profile” on the left side of the page. Think of your profile as the face you present to the rest of the eBird community. From here, you can upload a profile photo, write your About Me section, and set the default region for viewing your profile map. You can also choose whether or not to make your profile public or to show your latest checklists.

If you make your profile public, it will be visible to logged-in eBird users from any place your name appears in eBird, such as a checklist, the Top 100 at a hotspot, or the Overview page for a region.

My eBird

My eBird displays your list totals, which are automatically updated with every checklist you submit. This section has all of the tools for you to go back and look at your past contributions to eBird. Choosing your location accurately and keeping checklists for each new location will ensure that your listing totals are correct.

Your Life List

This is the total number of species that you've ever reported to eBird. We hope that this number reflects your real-life life list. Check out this article if you have older sightings that are not yet in eBird. Clicking your life list number will take you to a summary of all the species you've ever seen, listed by default in taxonomic order. Once on this page, clicking on any of the headers will sort the display by that field.

Here are what the link on your Life List do:

  • Clicking on any species name will take you to the Explore Species profile for that species, where you can view media, the species map, and your observation stats for the species.
  • "View All" will take you to a page that shows you every one of your records of that species in eBird.
  • Any link in the Location column will open a page showing your life list for that specific site or state/province.
  • Any link in the Date column will take you to the specific checklist that life bird was first reported in.
  • In the upper right corner there is the option to download your Life List as a spreadsheet.

Your Stats

Your Stats gives you life, year, and month totals for three broad-scale listing totals: Species, Checklists, and ABA Area Total Ticks. Total Ticks is defined here.

Your Lists

Major Regions contains the same fields for everyone:  your life, year, and month lists for every major region from the World to the Pacific Ocean. The other three tabs show regions based on where you have submitted checklists. Like the Life List, clicking on the blue number takes you to the list of species for that region.

On the State/Province tab, you can see "Total County Ticks" which shows the sum of your county life lists added together for that state/province.

To generate list of birds for a state or province from the current month: go to either your Country or County tabs, find a location with a value greater than zero under Month. Click on that number and select the state/province of interest in the S/P (State/Province) column.

My Checklists

The right side of the My eBird page, under "My Checklists", provides options to summarize, modify, and share existing checklists.

Summarize My Observations

This is currently the best way to combine data from many checklists in one place without downloading the data from the website. First, choose the time period you want. If you want a single day report, just choose the day you're interested in as the start date, and select Week. Choose the desired locations from among the places you visited on your selected dates. You can print or download any summary report to your computer, allowing you to save it offline.

Manage My Checklists

This page is THE place from which to do anything involving your personal checklists, whether it’s to view, edit, share, or in rare cases, delete checklists. Clicking any of the column headers (e.g. Date, Location, County, State/Province) will sort by that column. WARNING: Once you erase a checklist from your personal account on the eBird website, it is gone forever from the database. Please do this only with utmost caution and as infrequently as possible.

My Shared Checklists

Here you view and add checklists that other eBird users share with you. Checklists that you have yet to accept are shown with an "Accept/Decline" option. If you hit "Accept" the checklist will be copied into your account; "Decline" will cause the request to vanish and the checklist to not be copied.

Sometimes the checklist keeper will correct something after they’ve shared the checklis. When they re-share the revised checklist with the group, you will receive the options to Replace or Keep the original checklist. You can “Replace” the original checklist with the newly shared version, or you can “Keep” the original checklist and decline the new version. In most cases, you’ll want to select “Replace” to incorporate their correction. For more about sharing, see this overview of the process.

Manage My Locations

This tool allows you to rename, move, or “merge” any of your locations in eBird. Locations come from where you place your checklists. Read how to use Manage My Locations here

Import and Manage Data

Here you can import spreadsheet data from your personal records. Required data formats are covered in detail here.

Download My Data

Here you can download all your eBird data in a spreadsheet that you can store on your personal computer, allowing you to manually backup your eBird data whenever you choose.
